Ever since I was introduced to online games as a little girl, I've been fascinated. I was mostly engrossed with MMORPGs, starting off with the staple MapleStory, before moving on to playing with the adults on CabalSEA at the age of 12. I went on to trying other games of the same genre. These were all games where I, though playing a class which was the easiest to kill, became a menace to deal with in the competitive or arena system. For years, I've only ever gamed on a laptop, as these games typically didn't require an advanced gaming rig to play with. So, equipped with my trusty 5 year-old ASUS UX302L, I dived into the latest multiplayer FPS by Blizzard, Overwatch. I was definitely by no means a perfect FPS player, but I did try. However, with limitations such as my frames per second, I couldn't play other roles as effectively. I messed around with my laptop's settings to bump it from 20/30 FPS to a better 40/50/60 FPS, but abrupt drops and unstablity was a constant plague. My record to date is 4 FPS.
I compensated my limitations by being better at my supporting role. To be more precise, Mercy. There were several reasons contributing to my becoming a Mercy main, but this was ultimately the factor. My game sense was developed over time, through analyzing what went wrong in my games, and making observations in professional plays. I began to actively participate in making calls to the team as well. My playstyle was something out of the norm, not everyone (random players who got queued with me) was confident with it since it was too different from the typical passive playstyle of Mercy, but it pays off in the end when they decide to believe me.
I quit playing Mercy in Quick Play (but still do in Competitive) as everyone seemed to get a heart attack when they discover how many hours I had on her. Since I no longer had to play with certain people, I had more freedom to try the other heroes, and quickly picked up the other supports. Though, the hardware limitations still placed a cap on my ability to play properly.
However, things might change soon. Why? Well, I finally got a PC to play with! Thanks to ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) Malaysia, I'm now readapting to the gaming world with an ASUS ROG G20, and ASUS VX228. I was really excited to try out the new rig, to see how different I could play now with a better setup. I still require some adjusting to this new world, but I can say for sure I definitely feel better!
