Cosplaying Kongou in a wedding dress was an interesting experience for me, as it was my first time in an actual wedding dress.
I never intended to cosplay this version at first, but it sort of happened through a series of accidental recommendation and miscommunication.
For the ensemble, I knew it would have been expensive to tailor make her dress. As I lack the skills to sew such an elaborate dress, I resorted to spending hours going through 200+ pages of wedding dresses on Taobao. 200 pages, down to 12 options later, I found the perfect one. It was at a reasonable price too! So, I then added it to my cart, along with a pearl necklace, wedding veil, satin gloves, tiara and a petticoat, and checked out. For the bouquet, I used individual stalks of faux white flowers and peach roses, wrapped their stems together with a florist tape, followed by a mesh gauze and then two different coloured ribbon. I had already owned the wig since I cosplayed Kongou's Kai Ni version before, all I needed to do was to restyle the wig and I was set for the shoot.
I had a hard time controlling myself during the photoshoot, as I couldn't help but to keep laughing. The same happened when I had a Sinon/Kirito shoot with another cosplay partner. I am not sure if it is an internal mechanism to cope with the nerves/awkwardness or because my cosplay partner kept telling me to 'let my teeth go'. Either way, I am thankful to have a patient cosplay partner and photographer. Behind the scenes, you could catch me laughing/giggling or swishing around in the wedding dress.
I admit, this shoot was kind of an impulse decision. But now, the more I look at the images, the more I am developing a sentimental value towards the elements involved in the shoot. I am glad that the images had captured the feel we were aiming for, despite the contra situation in reality.
