In my early years of cosplay, I was, for a short time, in a Facebook group dedicated to all things Vocaloid. I was exposed to the characters in the franchise and was in awe when I saw them in different outfits. I stumbled across Snow Miku by chance, and without considering the weather in Malaysia, I decided to cosplay her.
For the ensemble, there was only one shop at the time on Taobao which made the costume. I placed my order and got other materials. The gloves are from Daiso (every cosplayer's favourite shop) and I was lucky that I found a pair that matched with the colour of her boots/stockings. I bought a small piece of faux white fur and sewed small Velcro strips, so that I could wear it above my blue thigh high stockings. The shop only gave two metal hairpins. As I wanted more, I printed out little snowflakes, traced them onto white EVA craft foam, cut them out, and glued them on the back of small hairpins. I did the same for the square rings for the twin-tails. The headphones were damaged upon arrival, and so I ripped everything apart and glued them back together. The 'snowball' too was from Taobao, but I have no recollection of how I managed to find it. Everyone who got curious of the 'snowball' has been searching for it too, but they can't seem to find it. Beginner's luck, maybe?
The debut event for Snow Miku was C2Age 2012. I got a great response from the crowd/community and I enjoyed the time I was in cosplay, despite going through a mini sauna session underneath the coat. I may have learned my lesson to not pick any more snow coat cosplays in Malaysia ever again, considering that the tropical weather is hot and humid all year round. I also joined a few competitions with this character, and have won a fair number of times. But if it's one thing I'll never forget, it's being haunted by remarks from people who are obsessed with my 'snowball'. Yes, there is actually a group of people who will ask about it, even after years have passed.
It wasn't easy to look for a location to shoot a snow-ish character. I found an abandoned building which was white all over and thought it would be perfect for the character. But, there are times where photoshoots don't work the way you want (we got chased away by the guards) and you don't get enough quality pictures. There is only very few pictures on the internet for this character, but sadly, I can't shoot her anymore as I sold the whole costume away. By far, this is definitely my favourite Vocaloid cosplay.
