Vampire Knight was one of the first anime/manga that I got hooked on. Yuuki Cross embodies kindness, bravery, and courage, something that I believe is a great quality for anyone to have. Also, I wanted something simple for my first cosplay and so she became the obvious choice.
As for the ensemble, I didn't know how to sew, how to purchase the costume and I had no one to teach me in that short amount of time, since the event was just a week or two away. Luckily, a cosplayer (Fishii Loh) who has been around for some time, offered to lend me her costume, but I later decided to buy it off her as a gesture. Although it was pretty loose on me, the costume came out well in pictures.
During the event (Comic Fiesta 2011), I didn't have the proper wig or weapon at that time, but I still got attention from the crowd. I was solo on Day 1, but on Day 2, my first cosplay friend (JingYing) and I were able to tag along with a Vampire Knight cosplay group. It was a decent experience for me since it was my first time doing something like cosplay.
I managed to give this character a proper photoshoot on the 22nd of April, 2012. I bought a wig (which was my first wig, and I managed to tangle it to a point which nearly caused Yuki Christy to lose her soul of patience when she was fixing it), adorned the costume, whipped out my dear Artemis (the scythe, made out of wood, spray painted), and personified her vampire-transitioned version.
At the time of AFA Malaysia 2012, I met two lovely young ladies who just started cosplaying. One of them was Yuka Karmun, whom I helped teach the ropes of cosplaying. I was proud when she managed to pull the character off quite well for a fresh blood. I was even surprised that she managed to hold and swing my 178cm Artemis, for a 150cm-er.
As of now, I am still holding onto Artemis. Maybe it is subconsciously my way of holding on to the character. Who knows?
