As someone with pale and translucent complexion, black is never my colour. Yet, because I have this thing for serious characters, I decided to take the plunge for Akame. Did I mention that I have a thing for assassin characters? Akame, to me, is a really cute character, despite being capable of murdering anyone without flinching. A little like me, people think I'm 'just a girl', but I can be pretty aggressive when need be.
For the ensemble, I got it tailor-made on Taobao and ordered a plain wooden katana. As usual, the costume arrived bigger than me, so I altered it down to my size and punched extra holes on the red belt that I bought from Tesco. The katana was spray painted to match the colour of red that matched the leather pieces, and I carefully free-handedly drew the words on the grip of the katana. The white part on the grip is just masking tape, as it was more durable and convenient than sticking paper to the grip. Hooray for short-cuts. The gloves were bought from Daiso, and I trimmed it to the desired length before sewing the edges. The leather pieces are, well, made of leather, and glued together by Weldbond. The little button on the tie is made out of an old snap I had lying around, painted it silver and drew the pattern with marker. It's attached to the tie via magnet because I didn't have the heart to sacrifice such a pretty tie.
To suit the theme of Night Raid, we arranged for a night shoot. It was tricky to flip the coat and wig, but thankfully we had some help. Keeping a poker face throughout the shots was surprisingly quite tough, to not move a facial muscle. There was only so many solo shots of Akame, if there was a chance for me to shoot a battle scene with another character from the series, I'd love to.
