Violet, a flower of innocence, and love. Evergarden, an everlasting garden.
Once again, I decided to work on a cosplay just a day before the photoshoot, haha. I actually did have plans to cosplay Violet from the release of the PV, but I wanted to be sure about her character before I did. With so many other cosplayers churning out cosplays in her 'doll' uniform, I felt like I didn't need to anymore. I was wrong.
The first episode got me instantly hooked all over again. When I saw her in her regular outfit, I thought that maybe I could work on this instead, to, hopefully, capture and project the impressions I got from the first two episodes. I started my search on Carousell, Shopee, and Taobao, but I realized it might be a little too late to have things ordered as my photoshoot is on the 31st. Well, the photoshoot for another character was supposed to be on the 31st, but I approached my photographer with this last minute change of plans just the week before or so.
So, I started scrambling around my craft room. As it turns out, I was in luck. I forgot how I had my old school uniform shirt hanging in my cosplay closet, I had my first sigh of relief since it was suitable for this version of the cosplay I was attempting to put together. A quick removal of the chest pocket, and 10 buttons replaced with pearl like ones later, the shirt was done! Now, onto the skirt. Well, thankfully, I bought the perfect green material years ago from Taobao, for Tuka's green elf outfit (which I never got to make), I dug it out of my material box, folded it on the floor, and traced the pattern for a circle skirt before cutting it out. A few struggles with the zipper and hemming, I was finally done. Now, for the gloves. I bought this dark wine brown stretch leather a while back when I was gathering materials for Devil Mercy, which I then gave up since I preferred the Witch skin when it came out. Unfortunately, this fabric had been out for too long that the leather kept separating from the stretchy cloth backing. I was not aware of this until I had already sewn a pair, and not only did the gloves not fit, but the leather kept peeling apart. I made my final pair later, but still had to glue the separated pieces back onto the backing. Yep, no longer going to buy fabric from local stores when Taobao has better quality ones. Now, onto the wig. Ok, in my defense, I'm still a newbie to wig styling, and I never dared to make permanent changes to wig that may be irreversible. Plus, this was meant to be the other-character-I-was-supposed-to-shoot's wig. I had to figure out a way to give the wig the little 'poof' at the crown. I did not have my hairspray with me, so I struggled with styling gum and a hair straightener. It kinda worked, but I think I'll be making changes to it after all. As for the shoes, I remembered having my old pair from when I cosplayed Yuki Cross in 2011. Again, as notorious as our weather is to shoes, the humidity and heat got to the leather at it was peeling apart. I tried to salvage it by painting the pair all over, but in the end, it completely fell apart after the photoshoot. RIP boots, I will miss ya *sobs*
The photoshoot was a quick one hour stunt. We arrived at the studio, and immediately got to work after I completed my make up. We had access to the extra props (even the typewriter!) since the photographer I was working with was the official photographer of the studio, and they wanted to promote the props for use the day after. In every shot, I had to maintain a expressionless persona since Violet is a 'doll' after all. But really, we were still making puns and having fun in the themed room, haha. All in all, it was a pretty calm experience, despite me only completing the whole ensemble the day before. Because what's a cosplayer without last minute rushes, am I right?
