Before the anime was out, there was already a big hype around the world revolving around KanColle. Like LoveLive, I didn't understand what was special about having ships as your wives. As such, I didn't pay much attention to the series, until I was told I resemble Kongou. That statement intrigued me, as you may know, I go for characters I have a lot in common with. So, apparently I had these qualities; I have the Kongou-vibe, I am a half-blood with some Scottish blood running in my veins, and I drink tea quite often.
So, for the whole time, I was like, "What's KanColle?", and then next thing I know, I was Kongou at Animax Carnival 2012.
Since most cosplayers have done her normal version, I wanted to be different and did her upgraded Kai Ni version. Plus, in the anime, she was already upgraded. Teitokus loves Kongou, or so I was told. Or observed, when I 'Burning Love'-ed the photographers and admirals at the event.
So, I tried searching for options on getting the costume done. It was more cost-effective to order the costume from Taobao than to make it myself. However, there was only her normal version available, so I had to get that set and then modify the costume myself. I ripped apart the costume and resewed it to match her Kai Ni. A few modifications here and there, last minute making of the radars with craft foam and aquarium air tubes, and she was done!
It was really a great experience interacting with people as Kongou, especially when they complimented me on being very Kongou-like. Guess it pays to have a 2D twin, haha.
The photoshoot was more of a conceptual kind, playing with silhouettes and less of my face involved. We shot this set really early in the morning to catch the rising sun. Pretty happy with the shots as they are unique and I don't think I'd be able to replicate the same poses again. Especially the one where my photographer was like 'higher, higher, higher' for my hips, haha.
