Shirayuki, one of my all time favourite female protaganist. I've been reading the manga way before the anime came out, and I was super ecstatic when the trailer for the anime aired. It's actually a highly rated series, which is weird considering not many people have cosplayed characters from it. I may or may not be a little upset about the lack of Zen cosplays.
Shirayuki is such a strong and willful character. She is brave, smart, and oh so many great things I could write about her. I saw myself in her as I read, and decided to pick her up as a cosplay plan. I even had ideas to don every apparel of hers, but stuck to the court herbalist uniform as it was more recognizable and relevant to the arc the anime was showing.
I ordered the costume online as it was more cost effective and less of a hassle. When it arrived, it wasn't as form fitting and the buttons were not placed properly. I removed every single button and resewed them, as the little OCD in me wouldn't be able to sleep had I not done it. To alter the costume, I removed the lining of the coat, added some long darts across the back, and resewed the lining. See that nice curve on my back? Without alteration, the natural curve of my spine won't be seen. The boots were originally black when I ordered them. I simply spray painted them with a beige-sand colour, and as for the flaps and soles, I used acrylic paint (a mixture of black, brown and white). When the painted flaps were dried, I stuck a yellow ribbon round the ol' oak tree--- oops, wait, I meant the edge of the flaps. Yes. That makes more sense. The white flower you see in the image was a random faux flower I had lying around, so, no plants were harmed in the making of this photo set.
Thankfully, the hour we shot this set at was pretty early and the weather was just right. Although I wore bright colours, I still could not escape from the not-so-friendly-neighbourhood mosquitos. All in all, I'm glad I could finally portray her, though I'm still waiting for a Zen, haha.
